CHARLOTTE THAARUP-OWEN writes an opinion piece in the Newcastle Herald, taking as its inspiration the family law change in Australia in 2006.
As part of the change parents were no longer allowed to project their dislike of the other parent onto their children by bad mouthing the other parent. In fact it is now a requirement to support the healthy relationship between the child and the other parent.
While yhis is one of the elements of the family law that is looked to, admired, but also inspiring international attention; Australia along with Norway is a clear brave leader in this field, Thaarup-Owen asks if we can take it to a greater level, to look at the tone of communication. Misery and hate is contagious, it hijacks our attention and colours everything, leaving us with poor ability to reason, prioritise and see with clarity.
