Yes, the widow’s allowance is not just for widows
Women who leave a relationship, either married or de facto, may be eligible for the widow allowance if:
(a) you were born on or before 1st July, 1955; or
(b) if you have become divorced or separated (including separated de-facto) since turning 40 years and are still single and have had no recent workforce experience.
“Recent workforce experience” is defined as working more than twenty (20) hours a week for at least thirteen (13) weeks in the previous twelve months. One must also satisfy Centrelink income and assets test. If one qualifies but also has dependent children this maximum rate is currently $513.80 indexed for inflation twice a year.
If you do not have dependent children the rate is $474.90 (indexed for inflation twice a year)
